The first body found was that of Eleonora Sirabella, 31 years old. There are seven victims so far ascertained (and five missing) from the landslide of Ischia, in Casamicciola. Eleonora and her companion Salvatore had renovated an old ruin, but they only lived there when he wasn’t on board. He could stay away for up to six months, and then Eleonora moved in with her mother in Lacco Ameno. They were both at home now.
Another destroyed family is that of Francesco Monti 11 years old and his sister Maria Teresa, just turned 6: they died in the small room where they slept, devastated by the landslide. The rescuers are still looking for the parents, Gianluca and Valentina, and Michele, the first child, 15 years old, officially still missing. Gianluca had decided to bring his family to live there to have the space to build a stable where to accommodate two mules and a horse, the passion of him and of the children.
The bodies of were also recovered yesterday afternoon Maurizio Scotto Di Minicoaged 32, of his wife Joan Mazzella 30-year-old and their newborn son John Joseph, who was born on November 4, just 22 days ago. Maurizio and Giovanna had lost their house in the 2017 earthquake, and had decided to renovate the one they had at the Cellario instead of recovering the destroyed one, in Piazza Maio.
Among the rubble of the landslide of Ischia was also found the body of Nikolinka Ganceva Blagova, 58 years old of Bulgarian nationality. Everyone called her Nina: she lived in Berlin with her companion of Ischia origin, but she had returned to their house on the Epomeo ridge to collect the certificate of Italian citizenship, which she had wanted for so many years.
At the moment they are 230 (but probably will increase) the displaced persons evicted by the carabinieri who carried out anti-looting checks on abandoned houses. Many displaced people, who have found accommodation in hotels in the area and in the homes of friends and relatives, are asking to be allowed access to their homes to recover what they need.
