Landslide on the coast of Paraná affects 15 vehicles and leaves one dead

The heavy rains that hit the state of Paraná since last Saturday (26) caused a landslide on the BR-376, at km 669 in Guaratuba, on the coast of the state, on the night of this Monday (28).

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) confirmed one death. Five trucks and ten cars were swept off the track by the mud.

In the last 72 hours, the accumulated rainfall has already exceeded 200mm in some parts of the region.

Among the vehicles affected is that of the mayor of Guaratuba, Roberto Justus, who reported on a social network that he was only alive because of God’s deliverance.

“When the car turned over, we broke the window, ran away, afraid that more dirt would come on top of us, we ran out in the middle of the road (…) we are fine, but very worried about the people who are there”.

Firefighters, Civil Defense, Government and Paraná Highway Police teams work together on the occurrence, which is still ongoing.

Santa Catarina Firefighters also assist in the rescue by providing search dogs, a helicopter and 35 men. In all, there are 89 firefighters working on site.

There is no forecast for the road, which is banned in both directions and connects the two states, to be released.

According to the Arteris Sul concessionaire, drivers should not follow the route, and as an alternative should use the BR-116 and BR-470.

The State Highway Police reported that Estrada da Graciosa (PR-140) is also banned at this time.

For this Tuesday (29), the alert continues for a great danger of storms on the coast of Santa Catarina and Paraná. There is still warning of danger or potential danger of rain in another 22 states.
