A fire hits the roof of a building under construction in the Torre neighborhood, which is in the West Zone of Recife, in Pernambuco, on Thursday night (28).
The Recife Fire Department reported that it was called and is working to combat the flames.
The building is on Rua Real da Torre and Padre Anchieta. The construction area is around 17 thousand square meters. The work foresees 33 floors in a building approximately 90 meters high.
Social media images show that the fire started at the top and spread to some floors below.
Governor Raquel Lyra posted on X about the fire: “Monitoring with public security forces the situation of the building under construction that is on fire, in the Torre neighborhood, in Recife. The Fire Department is working at the scene and ensuring that everyone who lives in the area stays safe.”
Mayor João Campos said that Civil Defense supports firefighters. “I called our Recife Operations Center (COP) to monitor the effects caused by a fire in a building under construction in Torre. Our teams, including the Civil Defense, work to support the Firefighters to block access to the streets and areas close to the site. I will continue to monitor this situation from here at Recife City Hall, together with the coordinators of the teams that are working”.
Pieces of wood used in the work fell, reaching the surroundings of the building.
As the building is under construction, the fire spread quickly through the materials used in the work.
