Lars Klingbil and Burbel Bas were recently elected as the new leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), in the shadow of last February’s historic election defeat and the criticism of the “omnipotence” of the Minister. Messer’s low percentage of Mr Klingbil is causing reflection. BAS was elected with 589 positive votes, 16 negative and 15 abstentions, with a total of 620 votes, with 95%, while Klingbil, out of a total of 619, received 402 positive votes, 166 negatives, and there were 51 abstentions. Its figure was reduced to 64.9%. He described the result as “difficult” for himself and said that he would like those who voted against him to have been publicly positioned during the conference. He also added that he realized that many of his decisions do not like everyone, such as support in Ukraine, but stressed that “the right course is” and promised “strong SPD, with Berbell together in leadership”.
