Last chance to deposit license plates – How to do it

By Prokopis Chatzinikolaou

Thousands of taxpayers are expected to immobilize their vehicles as a result of the energy crisis that has resulted in an increase in the price of gasoline. Last year, due to the pandemic crisis, 132,000 owners immobilized their cars compared to 84,000 in 2019.

Those wishing to submit license plates should do so by the end of December, unless the period is extended, as is usually the case every year. With the process of “electronic immobility”, vehicle owners do not need to visit the tax office. The relevant process is completed with an electronic application which includes the exact details of the city, the street and the number of the stopping point of the vehicle. Those who immobilize their vehicle should know that:

– A car for which a declaration of immobility has been submitted, is strictly forbidden to drive for any reason.

– A vehicle for which immobility has been declared, if it is located in the context of inspections carried out by the legally competent bodies and the services of the Independent Public Revenue Authority, whether it circulates or bears license plates, the immobility is automatically revoked and imposed by the Independent Public Revenue Authority, in addition to the traffic fees and the fine for non-payment, an administrative fine equal to 10,000 euros. In case of recurrence, the fine is tripled and the driver’s license of the owner or holder of the vehicle is deducted for three years.

Particularly:

1. Passenger cars vehicles and motorcycles are henceforth immobilized electronically through the mycar.aade.gov.gr platform, without delivery of the registration data (license and license plates) to the tax authority.

2. For the non-payment of the fees, the vehicle must be immobilized on time, ie before the deadline for the payment of the registration fees.

3. The existence of debts from road tax of the current year or previous years does not constitute a reason for rejection of the application for electronic position of the vehicle in immobility.

4. Once the vehicle has been immobilized electronically, the registration data shall be removed from the vehicle and stored at the responsibility of the vehicle owner or holder. The vehicle is stored in a closed and fenced area, the exact details of which are declared responsibly when completing the online application for the vehicle to be stationary.

5. The owner or possessor of the vehicle enters the mycar.aade.gov.gr platform. For his login he uses his personal Taxisnet codes and selects “Immobility”. The application shows the total number of passenger cars. vehicles and motorcycles owned by him, regardless of their condition, based on their registration number. The owner or possessor chooses the vehicle or motorcycle, which he or she wants to immobilize and if his / her condition is “in motion” he / she submits the corresponding request.
