Last day of cannabis event has debate on racism and health promotion

On the last day of the Cannabis Thinking Legacy event, which took place between September 15 and 17 in São Paulo, topics such as historical reparation, health promotion and climate justice were addressed. The event featured about 40 experts in the fields of education, environment, judiciary and agriculture to discuss the topic of cannabis.

The first lecture on Saturday (17) was conducted by the rector of the Zumbi dos Palmares University, José Vicente. “We have come a long way in the fight against racism and racial inequality and we cannot let these injustices against young black people continue to happen. I believe that regulations for the cultivation of cannabis can generate employment and income for the black population that suffers from criminalization in the peripheries”, he pointed out.

He presented the Zero Racism program and spoke about the potential of the natural market to follow corporate sustainability goals, currently represented by the acronym ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance).

The plant has the ability to regenerate the soil – that is, clean the earth of toxic materials and restore the balance of its composition – and it can still be fully utilized. It is raw material for the pharmaceutical, textile, cellulose and civil construction industries. If industrial hemp were regulated in the country, it is estimated that it would lead to the creation of 300,000 jobs.

On the last day of the event, social worker and teacher Lucia Cabral spoke about projects carried out in the Complexo do Alemão slum that have improved the lives of children and adults in the community. “Cannabis, for me, means health, so we need to put an end to this war on drugs that only brings death to our people”, she emphasized.

According to her, after NGOs started working with children with autism, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, among other diseases, many families returned to “rejoice for their children” and the projects only grow.

The objective of the meeting was to make an overview of what is most current in the national and world market. The lectures helped the public to scale the breadth of the market and have the opportunity to meet finalist startups of The Green Hub’s business acceleration project, creator of the event.
