The global market for smartphone application processors (applications processors or APs as opposed to networking processors) in 2021 grew by 23% compared to 2020 and reached $30.8 billion. Analysts of Strategy Analytics have such data. According to their calculations, Qualcomm retained its leadership in this area, taking 37.7% of the market in monetary terms by the end of the year. It is followed by MediaTek and Apple with 26.3% and 26.0% respectively. The listed companies and Unisoc, ranked fifth, increased their shares, while Samsung LSI and HiSilicon, ranked fourth and sixth, lost some positions.
In quantitative terms, MediaTek shipped the most smartphone application processors in 2021, overtaking Qualcomm for the first time (by more than 75 million units).
At the same time, three out of every four processors were manufactured at the facilities of TSMC. Models manufactured according to the standards of 7 nm and less accounted for 43% of the total supply.
