ZachXBT stated that it was able to partially trace the path of the theft of assets before they were converted into ether and distributed by hackers to a large number of exchange addresses. The theft of assets may be a consequence of the hacking of the LastPass platform, which occurred in 2022, the crypto detective suggested. Then unknown persons gained unauthorized access to the company’s source code and technical documentation through the computer of one of the platform’s software engineers.
Two years ago, LastPass confirmed that attackers successfully copied customer data, including encrypted passwords and other sensitive information, during a hack.
ZachXBT said that since 2022, there have been more than 150 cases of cryptocurrency theft from LastPass users, which in total led to losses of more than $40 million.
Earlier, Sentinel Labs announced the discovery of a new virus, Hidden Risk, launched by the North Korean hacker group BlueNoroff. To spread the virus, PDF files were used, after opening which a file with the virus was downloaded. Hidden Risk provides hackers with the opportunity to steal personal information, private keys of crypto wallets and passwords.
