Latam has a net loss of US$ 2.7 billion in the 4th quarter

Latam, a company undergoing judicial reorganization in the United States, had a net loss of US$ 2.755 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021, an amount 186.3% greater than the loss of US$ 962.476 million recorded a year earlier.

For the full year, the loss was US$4.647 billion, up 2.2% from the negative result of US$4.545 billion in 2020.

Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) in the fourth quarter was US$ 385.959 million, compared to a negative indicator of US$ 102.417 million in the same period last year.

The Ebitda margin was 19.3%, compared to -11.4% in the annual comparison. In the accumulated result, Ebitda totaled US$ 46.117 million, with a margin of 0.9%, compared to the negative US$ 275.903 million seen in the previous year and a margin of -6.4%.

The airline’s operating revenue between October and December was US$ 1.995 billion, up 122.4% over the same period of the previous year.

In the twelve months of 2021, the number stood at US$ 5.111 billion, up 17.9% over 2020.

Among the highlights, the airline says that the continued improvement in air traffic levels during the fourth quarter, as a result of the easing of travel restrictions and the vaccination process in the region and worldwide, was reflected in a quarterly improvement in operations, reaching 63.5% of 2019 levels (measured in ASKs) in the three-month period.

“This corresponds to a 29.6% capacity increase compared to the third quarter of 2021, still mainly driven by domestic operations as the international segment lags behind. In terms of domestic capacity, the Spanish-speaking affiliates and the Brazilian affiliate ended the year reaching 89.1% and 92.9% of December 2019 levels, respectively.
