LATAM Solidarity Plane breaks borders for humanitarian aid

Natural and climatic phenomena such as hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, droughts, floods, fires, in addition to epidemics, famine, wars and any other catastrophe caused by nature or by man, require humanitarian aid, fast and agile, to save lives, alleviate the suffering and bring dignity to people.

It is in these moments that the LATAM Solidarity Plane is always ready to take flight to provide help to those who need it most.

Through it, which is the main social program in Brazil and South America, LATAM provides all its expertise in logistics and air network to offer free connectivity, capacity and speed in the transport of people and cargo at the service of society.

As every year, 2022 is being marked by several catastrophes such as the heavy rains that hit the Northeast, mainly in the states of Maceió and Recife. LATAM acted promptly and transported 3 tons of materials, including mattresses and food, to serve the affected communities and families. The Solidarity Plane was also responsible for the free transport of 23 volunteers from the NGO Amigos do Bem and donated air tickets to 8 veterinarians who helped in the rescue of animals in these states.

But 2022 will go down in world history with the war in Ukraine, the conflict that has ravaged the country, ruining entire cities, killing thousands of civilians and forcing millions of refugees out of their homes.

As LATAM’s connectivity breaks any barrier of distance, Avião Solidário joined the União BR Movement and Simple Nutri to transport 4 tons of donations, including dehydrated foods, free of charge for the victims of the war in Ukraine.

Our contribution in this difficult time is for donations to reach those who need it most as soon as possible.”, emphasizes Gislaine Rossetti, director of Institutional Relations at LATAM Brazil.

Throughout this year, the Solidarity Plane transported 470 tons of cargo completely free of charge. Currently, it is the main social program of the LATAM Group’s Sustainability strategy. In the last 10 years, more than 130 million Brazilians have benefited, which has had great prominence in the transport of vaccines in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Latam alone transported 270 million doses free of charge, accounting for 65% of all immunizations transported by air. By positively impacting millions of people, it has consolidated itself as one of the most important agents of social transformation in our country.
