LATAM Solidarity Plane works effectively in environmental preservation

Birds, monkeys, sloths and several other species of our fauna have already been saved by the efforts of NGOs and the LATAM Solidarity Plane, which transports them, free of charge, for the conservation and preservation of the environment.

Since its launch in 2011, the LATAM Solidarity Plane has transported more than 4,600 animals threatened with extinction or kept in captivity.

This year alone, more than 120 wild animals have been transported, such as the bush dog (Speothos Venaticus) that was taken from Rondonópolis, in Mato Grosso, to Brasília. And two individuals of the black lion tamarin (Leontopithecus Chrysopygus) who left Guarulhos in São Paulo and went to Rio de Janeiro.

In April, together with IBAMA, Instituto Onça-Pintada, from Goiás, and Parque das Aves, from Foz do Iguaçu, the LATAM Solidarity Plane transported several wild animals, including the purple turtledove (Columbine Talpacoti), the spider monkey (Ateles Beelzebuth) and laziness (Bradypus Tridactylus), contributing to the preservation of the species and ensuring that they had shelter and shelter, as well as a new life, away from the bad conditions in which they were/were subjected.

For this type of transport, LATAM provides all its logistical experience, air network and special care and safety. The cargo hold of the aircraft is reserved for storing the species, always aiming at comfort and reducing the stress caused by the trip.

In these specific cases of environmental management through the transport of wild animals, working together with conservation institutions is the sum of many hands determined to save and preserve the right to life of threatened species.”, says Gislaine Rossetti, director of Institutional and Regulatory Relations at LATAM Brazil.

LATAM also works with NGOs such as SOS Mata Atlântica, Ampara Animal, FAS, GRAD and Associação Mata Atlântica that receive support from the program with donations of airline tickets so that professionals can carry out their activities and, thus, through partnerships, also , contributes to effective actions in environmental preservation and conservation.

Environmental preservation work is part of the Shared Value Pillar of LATAM’s Sustainability Strategy, which in addition to reducing the impacts caused, brings benefits to communities and Brazilian biodiversity.

The Solidarity Plane is one of the most important agents of social transformation in Brazil.
