Latin American governments spoke out this Sunday (28) asking that the results after the elections in Venezuela be respected.
In a joint statement, the Foreign Ministries of Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic urge that the results be respected through a transparent vote count.
“We are closely following developments in Venezuela and consider it essential to have guarantees that the election results will fully respect the popular will expressed by the Venezuelan people at the polls,” the statement said. “This can only be achieved through a transparent vote count that allows for verification and control by observers and delegates for all candidates.”
The Colombian government celebrated the “high turnout” of voters in Venezuela and reported that Colombian diplomatic personnel visited some of the voting centers.
“The Government of Colombia supports the Venezuelan people, exalting and celebrating their high level of peaceful and serene participation in today’s presidential elections. Our ambassador and consular mission chiefs visited some of the polling stations that are witnessing this decisive election day.”
