Latin pride! Salma Hayek receives her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

On November 19, Salma Hayek unveiled her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is given to people with significant careers in the world of entertainment.

For Salma, this represented, in addition to one of the most important accolades of her long career, an opportunity to discard bad memories she has about Hollywood Boulevard.

The start was not easy

You see, when Salma had been in America for just two years, she was attacked along with some friends by a man brandishing a knife. Fortunately, they managed to flee, but the actress remembers that it was a long time without anyone helping them, until finally two people came to her rescue.

Why am I telling you this story? Because every time I think of Hollywood Boulevard, that’s what I remember. And the truth is that that night when I went home I said to myself: ‘What am I doing here? Nobody wants me to be here. They almost killed me today. ‘

That unpleasant experience wasn’t the only one that made Salma feel like she shouldn’t be in America pursuing her dreams.

I remember once I went to the cinema and someone hit me on the back of my chair and said: ‘Mexican, don’t you sit in front of me. Go back to your country. ‘ I remember once again I was queuing at a cafeteria and someone grabbed my arm, pulled me out of the line and said: ‘I’m not going to line up behind a Mexican woman.’ But I stayed here.

“The fans gave me the courage to stay”

Salma dedicated her star to her fans, ensuring that for them he stayed in the United States and today has an impressive career in the world of entertainment.

I want to say to everyone here, my dear fans, that it was you who gave me the courage to stay here. Although they did not know me in the Hollywood studios, all the Latinos in the United States knew who I was, they understood that I had come with dreams like them. These fans have been with me for 37 years. In the hard times, they gave me the courage.

In her speech, which you can see here, Salma also gave words of encouragement to the crowd and all the people who feel inspired by her.

Find something you love. If you feel that you are not good at it, make yourself good. Be the best version of yourself in everything you do. Try to be better. Try to find joy in what you do. Work hard and prepare. Do not give importance to what people say and, above all, do not listen to yourself when you try to belittle yourself.

Your colleagues have nothing but flattery

In addition to important political figures, such as Eric Garcetti, mayor of Los Angeles, and the world of cinema, such as Adam Sandler and Chloé Zhao, the woman from Veracruz was accompanied by her husband, businessman François-Henri Pinault, and their 14-year-old daughter, Valentina Paloma.

Adam Sandler said a few words, stating that Salma is a great friend and “one of the best actresses of our generation, an incredible person and down to earth.”

Chloé Zhao, Director of Eternals, one of Salma’s most recent films, said that the woman from Veracruz is not only an extraordinary actress, but that, like her character in the film, Ajak, she is a leader, a mother and a healer.

Salma is a very deep person, with incredible talent and compassion. She is a brave enough woman to chart her own path and never allow anyone to pigeonhole her
