Discussing Russia’s security requirements within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) would be interesting but does not replace talks with the United States and NATO, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Without any progress in the latter, the talks in the OSCE would not make sense, Lavrov said after a meeting in Moscow with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, who holds the OSCE chairmanship.
According to Reuters, Lavrov also said that Russia would continue its dialogue with the West on security issues and that it was ready for separate talks on medium-range nuclear missiles.
The Russian Foreign Minister also rejected as “information terrorism” information according to which Russia plans to invade Ukraine.
The Polish Foreign Minister said that the OSCE wants to create a platform for talks in order to prevent crises like the one in Ukraine and called for a further dialogue on the conflict.
“We would like to create an informal platform for open political debate among OSCE participating States, which will allow the discussion of mechanisms to end crises such as the current one,” said Zbigniew Rau.
