Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the West’s “maniacal” criticism of the war in Ukraine at the G20 meeting, saying Russia’s adversaries were avoiding tackling global economic issues.
“During the discussion, the Western partners avoided following the mandate of the G20, to deal with issues of the global economy,” Lavrov said, Reuters reports.
According to him, the discussion “devolved almost as soon as they took the floor, into a manic criticism of the Russian Federation in relation to the situation in Ukraine. ‘Aggression’, ‘invaders’, ‘occupiers’, we heard a lot of that today,” he said. Lavrov.
Indonesia urged the G20 on Friday to help end the war in Ukraine, at a meeting of the group’s foreign ministers that put some of the staunchest critics of the Russian invasion at the same table as Moscow’s top diplomat.
Lavrov added that Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine and Turkey on grain, but it is unclear when those talks might begin.
