Lavrov: Ultimatums and threats against Moscow lead nowhere

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is meeting in Moscow with his British counterpart Liz Tras, warned that a Russian invasion of Russia would lead to a Russian invasion of Russia. it was catastrophic.

“Approaches based on ideology, ultimatums and threats lead nowhere,” Lavrov said at the beginning of his meeting with Tras, while complaining that “many of our Western colleagues seem to love this way of (communication).”

At the same time, the Russian minister noted that Moscow is ready to normalize its relations with Britain, while describing his meeting with the British counterpart as “unprecedented”.

“If this is really the goal of our British colleagues, then of course we will reciprocate. Because we can not be satisfied with a relationship that is probably at its worst for many years,” Lavrov explained.

“But we can normalize relations only through a dialogue between equals that respects both sides (…) in order to find mutually acceptable solutions,” he added.

In addition to Tra, Russia is being visited by British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace in another diplomatic effort to de-escalate tensions between Moscow and the West over Ukraine.

The British Foreign Secretary, meanwhile, said she had gone to Moscow “to urge Russia to follow the path of diplomacy” and told Lavrov that London could not ignore “the deployment of Russian troops” near the border with Ukraine.

“The reality is that we can not ignore the deployment of more than 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border and efforts to undermine Ukrainian sovereignty,” he said.

“A war in Ukraine would be catastrophic for the Russians and the Ukrainians, but also for European security, and NATO has made it clear that any invasion of Ukraine would have massive consequences and great costs,” she said.

“There is an alternative path, a path of diplomacy that avoids conflict and bloodshed,” he added.
