A 72-year-old man died after intervening in a widespread fight this Monday (17), in Juiz de Fora, in the interior of Minas Gerais. The victim died at the scene after being attacked during the argument, falling to the floor and hitting his head heavily.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. After receiving a call, military personnel arrived on the road, where the victim was already unconscious and remained lying on the ground. People informed the police that they had already contacted the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU). The agents then began cardiac massage on the elderly man until help arrived, but he could not resist and died at the scene. The death was confirmed by a SAMU medical team.
According to the Military Police of Minas Gerais (PMMG), the victim was lawyer Geraldo Magela Rispoli, who was walking along a road, in the Manoel Honório neighborhood, on Monday afternoon (17) when he noticed two people arguing on the sidewalk. When trying to separate them and end the argument, he was hit by a punch and fell to the ground, hitting his head and the back of his head heavily. Shortly after the incident, the perpetrator of the attacks fled the scene.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that technical expertise attended the area where the incident occurred. The Duty Station authorized the arrest in the act of the perpetrator of the crime, who was later located, arrested and sent to the prison system.
On social media, the Brazilian Bar Association – Juiz de Fora Subsection, lamented the incident and the loss of the lawyer:
“The Brazilian Bar Association – Juiz de Fora Subsection expresses its deep indignation at the case of very serious violence perpetrated against a lawyer. Violence against a lawyer is violence against the entire legal profession. The Board of Directors of the Order expresses its deep regret and sadness for the victim’s family,” the organization said in a death note.

According to PMMG, an unidentified 45-year-old person was walking along a street in the neighborhood when the 35-year-old perpetrator of the crime approached her and started an argument.
According to authorities, both men in the past worked together at a steakhouse. The attacker, a former employee of the place, was taking legal action against the establishment. During the course of the process, the person approached would have testified in favor of the restaurant, which would have caused the former employee to become angry when he met his former co-worker. Amid the argument, the man then begins to attack the victim, who still works at the steakhouse.
A few minutes later, lawyer Geraldo Magela approaches the confusion and tries to separate them. The attacker then hits Magela with a punch. With the force of the blow, he falls to the ground, dying at the scene.
Subsequently, the aggressor, who fled after the incident, was found by police officers inside the steakhouse, against which he was taking legal action. The PM received information via radio that he was at the scene. He was arrested red handed and sent to the prison system.
The case was received at the municipality’s Duty Station, but must be forwarded to the Specialized Homicide Police Station.
