Lawyer reports violence committed by PM in Serrinha dos Pintos (RN)

Lawyer Gennyelle Beatriz Lemos reported having been the victim of violence committed by a military police officer in the city of Serrinha dos Pintos (RN), last Sunday (17). The attack happened after the professional intervened in the approach against an 18-year-old young man.

THE CNN Gennyelle said she approached one of the officers and asked what was going on. A few moments later, the young man was dragged to a police station, where the agents informed him that they could not say why he was being approached. Likewise, she made herself available for follow-up.

She comments that she instructed the young man not to say anything or show resistance to the police officers’ commands, which made one of the sergeants uncomfortable. The teenager was placed in the trunk of the vehicle, and the lawyer intervened, claiming that there was no need for such an attitude from the police.

After saying that she would accompany the young man and the police officers saying that she did not need to, one of the agents began to treat her aggressively in a conversation, saying that he “was the State”.

The lawyer countered and said that he was not the State, and insisted that she would accompany the young man. The two continued arguing and at one point the police officer threw liquid in her eye.

The police officer repeated the action three times, which left her disoriented. Then, the police got into the car and left with the young man.

In a note, the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio Grande do Norte (OAB/RN) offered solidarity to the lawyer and reported that “it has been providing all the necessary assistance for a rigorous investigation of what happened.”

The Military Police reported that they will open an internal procedure to investigate the complaint.
