Le Figaro: Inability to find a new Frontex director following Legger’s resignation

The impossibility of finding a new director of Frontex to replace the resigned Fabrice Leggeri is reported by the newspaper Figaro, noting that at the beginning of the week the possibility of a temporary replacement was discussed, but this was not possible.

According to the French newspaper, “it is certain that the European Commission should use its imagination to solve this problem of succession, which should have been solved immediately.” It is also noted that, according to the agency, the migratory pressure at the gates of the EU is intensifying, as the summer season facilitates the work of traffickers, with the result that the EU faces levels of migration flows similar to those before the health crisis and some times even higher.

From 1 January to 30 April, the increase in illegal flows in the EU is 69% compared to last year, while, without even taking into account the situation in Ukraine, arrivals during the same period of illegal immigrants from the Balkans increased by 130 % and those from the Eastern Mediterranean by 183%, the report said.
