“England and Greece ready to exchange views on Elgin marbles” is the title of today’s article on the website Le Journal des Arts, where it is noted that after a meeting of a UNESCO committee, talks between the United Kingdom and Greece were announced on the subject.

As reported, the 23rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for the Promotion of the Return of Cultural Property to the Country of Origin or its Restoration in Case of Illegal Appropriation (ICPRCP), which takes place this week at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, announced that the United Kingdom and Greece agreed to discuss the case of the Parthenon Marbles.

This meeting responds to the call of the 22nd ICPRCP meeting that took place last September and called on Greece and the United Kingdom to “intensify their efforts to reach a satisfactory settlement of this long-standing issue, taking into account the historical, cultural , its legal and moral dimension “. He also called on the Director-General of UNESCO to “facilitate the convening of the necessary meetings between Greece and the United Kingdom in order to reach a mutually acceptable solution”.
