Le Monde: Reckless use of the pesticide flufenacet has contaminated water resources in France

The French newspaper Le Monde reports that in France, but to some extent in the rest of Europe, water resources have begun to become alarmingly contaminated with trifluoroacetic acid due to the reckless use of the pesticide flufenacet. The herbicide in question was recognized on September 29 by the European Food Safety Authority as an “endocrine disruptor”, i.e. as a chemical product that affects the hormonal system of animals and humans, the newspaper writes, noting that despite the fact that the European Commission had called for the withdrawal of the pesticide flufenacet from the European markets since 2013, this did not happen due to subsequent decisions to suspend the withdrawal. Its use is extremely widespread in Europe, while in France its sales have practically doubled in the last three years, approaching 900 tons a year. Source: RES
