One man identified as the leader of a gang specialized in stealing loads of electronic products was arrested by the Civil Police, this morning, in Itaquaquecetuba, in Greater São Paulo.
The operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspect is an offshoot of another work by the 1st Vehicle Robbery and Theft Investigation Station (Divecar), of the State Department of Criminal Investigations (DEIC), which had already detained three suspects from the same group.
During the operation, in addition to the arrest warrant authorized by Justice after the investigation began 60 days ago, the police also executed two search and seizure warrants; one in Itaquaquecetuba and another at an undisclosed address in the south of São Paulo.
At the search addresses, two cars used by the gang in attacks on drivers were seized. One of the vehicles had been reported stolen. In addition to the cars, several cell phones and marijuana were seized.
According to the police, the suspects used cars when approaching victims on the roads of São Paulo. A sequence of photos made available by the police shows the dynamics used by the suspects in criminal actions.
In the sequence of photos, it is possible to identify the suspects using a car to make a truck slow down. Later, another car approaches and, under threats, surrounds the driver on the side of the road.
According to the investigation, during the attacks, the suspects keep the drivers kidnapped and take advantage of isolated areas to transfer the stolen products to their own truck.
In the reports of the victims, who helped the police during the investigations, there are indications that the suspects received privileged information about the loads and details related to the trucks’ security devices.
The prisoner will be responsible for the crimes of cargo theft, drug trafficking, receiving and tampering with motor vehicle identification signs.
