A leader of the jogo do bicho and 12 others were arrested, this Friday (1st), in Rio de Janeiro, in a joint operation by the Federal Police (PF) and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ).
According to the PF, the “Mahyah” operation aims to “dismantle a criminal organization dedicated to the practice of homicides, passive corruption and illegal possession of firearms, headed by a banker from the Jogo do Bicho”.

Thirteen people were preventively arrested and 19 search and seizure warrants were executed. “Among those arrested is a leader of the jogo do bicho, a civil police officer and military police officers,” reported the MPRJ.
The leader of the game of the trapped animal is Ailton Guimarães Jorge, Captain Guimarães.
According to the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ), the bicheiro was already under house arrest due to another process, and the preventive detention of this action was also replaced by house arrest with electronic anklet monitoring.
“The investigation is an offshoot of Operation Sicários, launched on December 7, 2022, against three criminal groups, subordinated to the same bicheiro, who control the monopoly of games of chance and exploitation of clandestine bingos on Ilha do Governador, Niterói, São Gonçalo and in Espírito Santo,” the MPRJ said in a statement.
“Also according to the investigators, to ensure territorial sovereignty, the criminal organization practices, in an orderly manner, various crimes, among which homicides, passive corruption and illegal possession of firearms stand out”, he added.
