Leaders of drug trafficking in northern Rio de Janeiro are the target of a PF operation

With the objective of arresting the main leaders of a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking in Campos dos Goytacazes, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, 70 federal police officers and members of the Special Action Group for the Repression of Organized Crime (GAECO), of the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, participate in Operation Thunder on the morning of this Monday (14).

The three preventive arrest warrants, issued by the 1st Specialized Criminal Court of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, were fulfilled – one of them at a luxury address in Barra da Tijuca, west of the capital.

At the scene, during the action, an undisclosed amount of cash, a cell phone, jewelry and documents were seized.

The police also visited a vehicle agency in Taquara, west of Rio, and in Campos dos Goytacazes, in the north of the state, where money, plus a mobile phone and documents were seized.

In addition to identifying the organization’s leaders, the action also aimed at kidnapping and blocking assets of members of the criminal organization. According to investigations, the gang had managed to hide R$ 10 million through various companies, properties and oranges.

The action was named Thunder in reference to the codename of the main leadership of the criminal organization.
