The São Paulo Court denied an appeal filed by the defense of singer Leandro Lehart, from Art Popular, and upheld the sentence of 9 years, 7 months and 6 days of imprisonment and 24 days of fine for rape and false imprisonment against a woman, in October 2019.
When contacted, the Court of Justice of São Paulo stated that “the process is being processed under judicial secrecy”.
On the artist’s social media, his defense stated that he will appeal and that he remains “confident that the truth will be reestablished, in time and manner, by the Judiciary”.
According to Davi Tangerino, who represents the musician, “there is still an appeal to the TJSP itself, called infringing embargoes”, due to the vote that acquitted him (from the rapporteur).
After this appeal, the case may be taken to higher courts, such as the Superior Court of Justice and the Supreme Federal Court, as a last resort.
Leandro is free, but he could be arrested when there are no more avenues to appeal, making the sentence final.
THE CNN the victim’s defense stated that Leandro “should be in prison”, and that from now on there is a sentence to be served in a closed regime, and that it had been confirmed by a higher court.
