At least 120 people were killed by the impacts of heavy rains that hit the city of Petrópolis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, since Tuesday (15).
The damage caused by the floods made about 850 people abandon their homes to take shelter in 19 support sites – hastily set up in local public schools.
Faced with this situation, several initiatives have emerged to collect donations for the affected families.
Below are some of the support actions and ways to help:
Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary and São José da Lagoa Parish (RJ and virtual)
The Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer and the Parish of São José da Lagoa have already accounted for 2,706.3 kilos of food, 11,534 liters of water and 3,415 hygiene products. Donations were distributed to the victims, in addition to water, clothing and personal hygiene and cleaning items.
In a post on Instagram, the Parish highlighted that they are in need of volunteers to help with the separation of materials. The materials most in need of donations are disposables, cutlery, cups, plates, warm packaging, candles (many communities have no electricity) and matches.
The campaign is receiving donations in person in Rio de Janeiro, at the Parish address – Avenida Borges de Medeiros, 2735, Lagoa. For those who cannot donate in person, there is the possibility of collaborating in cash virtually on the website cristoredentor.euquerodoar.com.br. The donated amounts will be reversed in donations
