Learn how to report stations that omit fuel price comparisons

In a movement that dates back to the end of June, the 26 states of the Union and the Federal District reduced the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Provision of Services (ICMS) on fuels, following a decision by the National Council for Finance Policy. (Confaz).

With the ICMS tax rate cap on fuel reduced by between 17% and 18%, fuel prices – notably gasoline, ethanol and diesel – began to drop at gas station pumps.

In order for the consumer to be able to perceive that there has been a reduction, according to a decree by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on July 7, establishments are now required to inform the price then charged on June 22, the date before the sanction. of the bill.

When displayed “correctly, clearly, precisely, clearly and legibly”, as stated in the decree, the previous prices can be compared to those charged at the time of purchase.

If, by chance, a gas station fails to comply with the measure, consumers can report it. via the form on the website Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).

In the reporting channel, it is necessary to inform the name of the gas station, the location and the fuel prices charged on June 22nd. In the link, the consumer can send photos that prove the declaration.

In addition to the form, Procons across the country have been mobilizing since last Monday (11) to inspect the amount charged at gas stations. According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, “the intention is to know if the amount charged at resale to gas stations follows the tax reduction so that the final price is passed on to the consumer”.
