Governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov said that the Avtotor automobile plant has preliminary agreements on the assembly of cars at its facilities with manufacturers from countries that have not imposed sanctions against Russia.
He did not name the specific manufacturers with whom negotiations are underway, but added that in three to four months the Avtotor plant could switch to new models and start assembling them.
Recall that Avtotor is one of the largest manufacturers of foreign cars in Russia. He was engaged in the assembly of cars of the South Korean brands Kia and Hyundai, as well as BMW, but the German concern announced the suspension of the production of cars in Kaliningrad.
From May 1 to May 22, the plant is on a corporate vacation, which will last from May 1 to May 22. At the same time, the structures that manage the construction and equipping of new production facilities and capacities created as part of Avtotor’s obligations under a special investment contract are operating normally. Employees of the Electroelement Design and Innovation Center and other departments involved in the implementation of the project to create the production of electric vehicles also continue their work.
Today we reported that “due to the difficult economic situation” the plant decided to allocate plots of land for vegetable gardens to its employees.
As of today, all factories for the production of passenger cars have stopped in Russia.
