Lebanon: Saad Hariri appointed Prime Minister

 

Saad Hariri was again appointed Prime Minister of Lebanon to form a government on Thursday, the presidency reported after binding parliamentary consultations led by Head of State Michel Aoun.

Saad Hariri was chosen by a majority of 65 MPs, according to a statement read at a press conference by a senior presidential official. He had resigned almost a year ago to the day under the pressure of an unprecedented popular uprising and will have to tackle the formation of a new government team in a Lebanon in the midst of economic collapse.

The newly appointed Prime Minister Saad Hariri has promised Lebanon to form a “government of experts” to carry out “reforms”, in accordance with the “French initiative” defended by Paris to get the country out of its economic collapse . Promising a team of “experts” who are not from political parties to carry out “economic, financial and administrative reforms”, Saad Hariri pledged in a short televised address to “form a government quickly, as time is running out and the country faces its only and last chance ”.
