Lebanon: Syrian ship allegedly carrying stolen Ukrainian grain leaves Tripoli

The Syrian ship, allegedly carrying stolen Ukrainian grain, has left the port of Tripoli in northern Lebanon and is heading to Syria, Lebanon’s Acting Transport Minister Ali Hami told Reuters.

The “Laodicea” had docked in Tripoli on July 27 carrying approximately 5,000 tons of barley and 5,000 tons of flour which, according to the Ukrainian embassy in Beirut, had been seized by the Russian authorities from Ukrainian warehouses.

A judge had issued a 72-hour seizure order on Monday, which expired yesterday evening, Wednesday, and the ship was allowed to depart.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry had called on Lebanon to overturn the court’s decision, expressing its disappointment with the court ruling and claiming that Kiev’s position was not taken into account.
