Three refugee children which were in a lake in Lebanonnear the Kaa refugee camp, died due to the torrential rains that have broken out in the country.
“Two brothers who bathed in the pond drowned, as did cousin those he tried to save,” said the mayor of Kaa, Bashir Matar.
The three boys were under 10 years of age. They were retrieved by soldiers and taken to Hermel Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
For several days, the rains and snow falling in Lebanon have caused significant damage to infrastructure.
Hundreds of thousands of Syrians fled to Lebanon when civil war broke out in their country in 2011. According to authorities, Lebanon is home to about 2 million refugees. Of these, 830,000 are registered by UN agencies. The UNHCR called in early December for aid to be provided to displaced Syrians as well as vulnerable Lebanese citizens as the country experiences an unprecedented socio-economic crisis.
