Former Polish president, co-founder and leader of anti-communist union and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa, 77 years old, underwent a “successful” operation to replace his pacemaker yesterday Monday, made known his partner and then confirmed himself.
Lech Walesa woke up after the operation, during which he underwent general anesthesia, his secretary told TVN24.
The co-founder of the union Solidarnoνος (Solidarność, “Solidarity”) and former president of Poland (1990-1995) later confirmed yesterday that the operation was “successful”, expressing “thanks” to those who wished him well via Facebook.
The operation lasted 4 hours and 30 minutes, according to his secretary.
“I feel good,” assured the Nobel Peace Prize winner (1983).
