Enthusiasts came to the rescue of the users of the legendary Xiaomi flagships, which the company itself ignored. We are talking about the Android 11 operating system for models such as Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and Mix 3, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
Note that Xiaomi released a proprietary MIUI 12 shell for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and Mix 3, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro back in 2020, but in all three cases it is based only on Android 10.
Now version of Android 11 has become available for these models from the creators of one of the most famous and long-running projects – custom firmware Paranoid Android.
In 2020, the Paranoid Android team announced the return of the project, releasing a firmware based on Android 10, while the last official release was based on Android 7 Nougat and took place at the end of 2018. The Paranoid Android team is already testing Android 11 on some models, and now these favorites have been joined by Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and Mix 3, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
Paranoid Android Ruby test builds are available for these models. According to the thematic resource XDA Developers, they are more stable than the earlier “alpha” builds of Paranoid Android based on Android 11. However, installing such firmware is solely at your own peril and risk, knowing well what you are doing.
Unlike some other custom firmwares, Paranoid Android comes preinstalled with the Google Play online app store, as well as other standard Google apps and services.
Debuting in 2018, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is the first ceramic smartphone to support wireless charging. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S out of the box ran MIUI 9 shell based on Android 8 Oreo out of the box. A more recent slider, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, debuted with Android 9 Pie.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro debuted in 2018. The smartphone is a variation of the standard Xiaomi Mi 8, but with a fingerprint sensor built into the screen, like the premium Mi 8 Explorer Edition. Initially, Android 8.1 Oreo was installed on it.
