Legendary sports car Acura NSX may return as an electric car

At the beginning of 2022, Honda decided to remove the second generation of its iconic Acura NSX supercar from sale, releasing a special version of the Acura NSX Type S as a farewell. However, the Japanese manufacturer does not seem to be going to put an end to this popular model and may restart it in a new guise . John Ikeda, vice president and brand manager of Acura in America, hinted at this.

When the authors of the Nikkei Asia edition asked an Acura top manager about the possibility of a third-generation NSX, he said that he was betting on it. He added that most likely it could be electric. True, Ikeda admitted that the decision to continue the Acura NSX series is not within his competence. The current President and CEO of Honda, Toshihiro Mibe, is responsible for this.

According to some reports, the all-electric Acura NSX could hit the market as early as 2026, when Honda unveils its signature e:Architecture electric platform. This electric car may well become one of the main symbols of Honda’s abandonment of internal combustion engines and the transition to the “green” side.

It should be noted that Honda lags behind most competitors in the car market in terms of electrification of the lineup. While other manufacturers are actively expanding the range of electric cars, Honda is just getting ready to introduce its first electric car. It will be a crossover Honda Prologue based on the GM Ultium platform, which will hit the market in 2024.
