Legislatures allocate R$ 79 million for the recovery of Petrópolis (RJ)

The governor of Rio de Janeiro sanctioned this Thursday (17) the bill that approved, in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), a donation of R$ 30 million for the city of Petrópolis to recover from the effects of the floods of last Tuesday (15). The phenomenon raised the level of rivers, caused flooding, landslides and left a balance that already exceeds 100 dead. With this, the financial allocations of the legislatures reach R$ 79 million.

The resources will come from Alerj’s Special Fund and will be transferred to the coffers of the Petrópolis City Hall. The act was published in the Official State Gazette. In the same document, the governor sanctioned the law approved the day before, by state deputies, which authorizes changes in the state tax payment schedule in cases of public calamity, such as the one faced by the mountain town.

The measure applies to the IPVA and ICMS of affected merchants, and payment can be made in more installments than originally planned. On Wednesday, the Retail Trade Union of Petrópolis (Sicomércio) pointed out that 300 stores in the Historic Center were affected by the flood. In some, the water level reached two meters high, as a result of the overflow of the Piabanha River, which cuts through the central region of the city.

Also on Wednesday (16), the Rio de Janeiro bench of the National Congress met in search of financial support for the municipality of the Serrana Region, where the waters left a trail of destruction, mud and debris. It was defined that each parliamentarian will allocate R$ 1 million of the remaining balance of the bench amendments for the recovery of the municipality.

As Rio de Janeiro has 46 federal deputies and three senators, the estimated amount is that around R$ 49 million will reach the municipality’s coffers from this source.
