Audrey Hepburn first drove her to the cinema in Roman holidays and since then the Vespa has ceased to be an Italian heritage to become a world cult object. The Danish LEGO bricks, on the other hand, can already boast several films under their belt (and five animated adventures are on the way). Putting these two cultural universes together means obtaining the exaltation of the collective imagination with a couple of myths. By adding up their age (seventy-five and ninety years, respectively), we exceed the century and a half of history and today we arrive at the birth of a whole new phenomenon.
Is called LEGO Vespa 125 and it has been eradicated – it should be said – on the market since 1 March to merge two style legends. Other than a game for children, this is a work of very high engineering because the set reproduces in great detail the two-wheeled model that appeared in the beautiful country in the 1960s. And yes, it had that same pastel color, a blue that made history of our costume and which returns in this new version of more than a thousand pieces.
Just a few days ago Tom Hollandprotagonist of the blockbuster of records Spider-Man: no way home, raced around the capital on a yellow Vespa, demonstrating the fact that Piaggio has managed to modernize an icon of tradition and transform it into a pop vehicle. Not only in Italy, however: in Deadpool 2 Ryan Reynolds used it quietly to run around in the midst of US skyscrapers (no cobwebs and parkour between buildings for him!).
And the LEGO bricks? He could not resist any cult character of the small or big screen, from The Simpsons to Jurassic World. So it is not surprising that a new piece of lifestyle arrives at the home of the public.
The set, on the other hand, has impressive measures with its 22 centimeters in height, 12 in length and 35 in height. LEGO Vespa 125 it can park alone with an ad hoc stand, it is equipped with a double seat, spare wheel, helmet, basket and even a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The most attentive, however, will not have escaped a historical detail for the Danish house: it is the first time that a rubber signed by the kingdom of bricks has a double color, this time black on the tires and white on the inside.
Although the team of designers – as they told at the exclusive event hosted by the Piaggio Museum of Pontedera – did not travel to the parent company in Tuscany to get a closer look at the real Vespa 125, it was anyway able to faithfully reproduce not only the aesthetics but also the soul through small great style detailswhich show the everyday life of this vehicle in our history.
The group of experts, led by Florian Muller, worked closely with Marco Lambri, head of Piaggio Group design center. We “brought together two dreams, LEGO and Vespa”, commented. And with good reason. By breaking down and reassembling this set, we understand very well the excellence of the two brands. To make matters worse, there is also a 1: 1 scale version of the Vespa 125 in bricks, made by Riccardo Zangelmi, LEGO Certified Professional, with over 110 thousand pieces and a weight of almost one hundred kilos. Has been traveling since Piaggio Museum around Italy, with the first stop in Milan in the store in Piazza San Babila until March 3, and then stop in the one in Turin until April 30.
With two competitions and various celebratory initiatives, which were inaugurated during the Fashion Week of the Lombard capital, this set is definitely a candidate to remain in the history of the two brands.
