Lemann comes to Brazil and personally takes part in the Americanas case

Businessmen Marcel Telles and Beto Sicupira came to Brazil to personally negotiate a solution to the Americanas case, according to the CNN found out from sources close to the two.

The third partner of 3G Capital, Jorge Paulo Lemann, would also be on his way to the country over the weekend. Telles, Sicupira and Lemann are Americanas’ three main shareholders.

The retailer has a debt of R$ 43 billion and is in the process of judicial recovery, after “accounting inconsistencies” of R$ 20 billion were detected in its balance sheet.

The arrival of the three mega-entrepreneurs sparked hopes among creditors for a positive course of action for the crisis. For them, it is a sign that they would be willing to evolve in negotiations and possibly inject their own resources to save the company.

On Thursday (2), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized Lemann. “This Lemann was sold as the epitome of a successful businessman on planet Earth. He was the guy who funded young people to study at Harvard to form a new government. He was a guy who spoke against corruption every day. And then he commits a fraud that can reach R$ 40 billion”, said Lula, in an interview with journalist Kennedy Alencar, from Rede TV!.
