However, according to the French Ministry of Economy, there are more than 500 French companies operating in Russia, such as Total, Renault, through its subsidiary Avtovaz, Société Générale, through its subsidiary Rosbank, and the Safran group, a long-time partner of the Russian aeronautics.

It is noted that the energy group Engie, which participates in the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, did not comment after the project was suspended by Germany, however, in early February, the general manager of the company had stated that a Russian -Ukraine conflict would be “bad news”. Total is specifically involved in two projects, aimed at the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG), namely Yamal and Arctic LNG2, but the latter was not expected to start before 2023.

Finally, it is noted that according to the French Ministry of Economy, France is the largest foreign employer in Russia, with about 160,000 employees.
