The artist Lena Dunham 38, is no longer involved in a movie about the doll Polly Pocket after working on the script for three years. The “Girls” star made the revelation in an interview with the New Yorker, published on Tuesday (9).
Before, the CNN reported that Dunham was responsible for writing and directing the film — one of the projects Mattel approved after the success of the film “Barbie” last year. At the time, the “Emily in Paris” actress, Lily Collins was scheduled to star in the work.
Dunham said her decision to leave the project had partly to do with “Barbie,” Greta Gerwig which she praised as a film with mass appeal, “perfectly and divinely” bearing Greta’s stamp.
“If I don’t do it the same way, I won’t do it,” Dunham added. “I don’t think I have the ability to do it. I feel like the next movie I do needs to be something that I really feel like only I could do. And I believed that other people could do ‘Polly Pocket.’”
When contacted by CNN a Mattel spokesperson said: “Polly Pocket is in development and we look forward to sharing updates on the project soon. Lena is a remarkable writer and creator and we wish her all the best!”
Polly Pocket is a toy line of dolls and accessories that became popular in the 1980s, featuring a small doll and her house that fits into a makeup case.
Other films in development by the toy giant include “Hot Wheels” and “Barney.”
