As you know, in the arsenal of Lenovo products there are corporate laptops ThinkPad and ThinkBook. Now the company has unveiled the ThinkPhone smartphone, the first mobile device it has collaborated with Motorola since the Chinese took over the legendary American brand’s mobile division. This new product is different from the usual Moto smartphones. The device is made in the style of ThinkPad laptops and, not surprisingly, designed to work with them. And yes, the red button is also present here.
At first glance, the smartphone is unremarkable, but in fact everything is thought out to the smallest detail. The rear panel is made of aramid fiber in the spirit of ThinkPad, the sides are aluminum, and the screen is covered with Gorilla Glass Victus. According to the company, the ThinkPhone is rated to military standard MIL-STD 810H, has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, can withstand drops from a height of 1.25 meters and submersion to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
Since this smartphone is aimed at the corporate segment, it is replete with security features. ThinkPhone has everything you need for administration. For example, the Moto Secure application, which acts as a security center that an IT professional can access remotely, the ThinkShield platform, which supports a range of threat detection services, and much more. There’s also a separate Moto KeySafe processor to improve security when using passwords and PINs.
It is especially interesting how the ThinkPhone works together with the ThinkPad. The company calls it Think 2 Think, a special mode in which the smartphone and laptop automatically connect to each other when they are nearby and on the same Wi-Fi network. Thus, a shared clipboard appears, which allows you to copy and paste content from one device to another, and smartphone notifications are displayed on the computer screen. In this mode, the ThinkPhone can be used as a webcam. Thanks to the support of the Motorola Ready For platform, the mobile device can also serve as a desktop computer – just connect an external display, keyboard and mouse to it.
Separately, it is worth talking about the red button, which is another hint of kinship with the ThinkPad line. It is located on the side of the smartphone and is programmable. Users can assign a specific action or launch a specific application to single and double taps. Through a partnership with Microsoft, the ThinkPhone comes pre-installed with Office 365, and in the future, push-to-talk (PTT) is expected in Teams, so you can send messages with the push of a button.
In terms of hardware, the ThinkPhone uses a powerful flagship Snapdragon chipset, a large OLED screen, a capacious battery, and pretty good cameras.
