Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold – the first foldable notebook

The future sometimes gives us exciting surprises and sometimes the future can already be touched with your hands. It was enough to open the package of the new one ThinkPad X1 Fold to realize where innovation has come. Lenovo’s product is indeed the world’s first foldable screen notebook.

The feeling is just that of having to deal with an object from the future: taking a tablet and folding it in two like a book is something we are not (yet) used to. It would seem almost a magic, instead it is the result of over four years of work tight and some ingenious engineering intuition.

Up to now we have had to make a choice of field, either PC or tablet, favoring the former to carry out work activities, the latter for playful moments. ThinkPad X1 Fold breaks this pattern by letting the user freely decide what to do with his device, anytime, anywhere.

The result is a revolutionary product, far from trivial. To design and build it, the challenge was arduous: not only did we need to find a material capable of bending the display, which was made possible thanks to the Plastic Oled, but also integrate all the typical components of a real laptop in a confined space.

The bar was then raised further to make the ThinkPad X1 Fold also easy to use, aesthetically appealing and resistant. Suffice it to say that the most delicate part, that is the folding mechanism, has been put under stress and has been certified for over 30,000 closing and opening cycles.

Also striking is the overall weight of this computer which on the scale does not exceed one kilogram, despite having a 13.3-inch display and is equipped with a battery capable of ensuring up to 8.5 hours of work.

No sacrifice even from the point of view of performance since it is equipped with a powerful Intel Core i5 processor, a solid state drive up to 1 TB of memory, 8 GB of Ram, 2 USB 3.2 ports and an integrated 5 megapixel webcam. But what makes this notebook even more advanced is the integrated 5G module which allows you to be connected to the network, at maximum speed, even on the move.

In the package of the ThinkPad X1 Fold you will also find the bluetooth keyboard and the Mod Pen, two accessories made specifically for this computer and can be perfectly integrated into the device. In fact, the keyboard has an eyelet to house the pen and the keyboard can be easily stored between the two portions of the screen when the X1 is folded.

These two accessories allow you to work with the Lenovo device as you would with a normal notebook but the difference with traditional products is obvious: once the PC is turned off, the screen is folded and the total footprint is practically that of a desk diary. The dream of being able to put the computer in the bag has come true.

Once you have tried the ThinkPad X1 Fold it is really difficult to go back and above all this product suddenly makes all the other computers “old”. But there is one flaw: the cost. Lenovo’s product is definitely meant for those who work and has truly unique features but the price of 3419 euro it makes it, unfortunately, an object for the few.
