Christopher Lamb, correspondent of CNN International In the Vatican, he said that, knowing Pope Leo XIV, at the time he was still a cardinal, he came across “a very attentive and very thoughtful person.”
“I thought that today he seemed, he knows, radiant, in a way, and he received the grace of the craft,” said Lamb, shortly after the new Pope made the first speech on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday (8).
Lamb said Leo XIV seemed to think carefully in the words he would say and what the first message from the world would be. This attitude differs from Pope Francis, who “spoke more improvised,” said the correspondent.
“He’s someone else who wants to prepare before he speaks, but what he says has a very strong impact,” Lamb added.
Tribute to Francisco and similar vision
During the first speech to the Catholic faithful, Leo XIV said he sees the Church as the one who “builds bridges” and dialogues. In addition, the pontiff also paid tribute to the late Pope Francis, encouraging the faithful to resemble the legacy of their predecessor.
“Let us keep in our ears the weak voice of Pope Francis who blesses Rome. The Pope who blessed Rome gave his blessing to the whole world that Easter morning,” said Leo XIV, referring to the day of Francis’ death on 21 April.
“Allow me to continue this blessing. God loves us. God loves everyone. Evil will not prevail,” he added in Italian, addressing the multitude gathered in the Vatican.
