Leslie Jordan, a comedian and actor best known for his work on the series “Will and Grace,” has died at age 67 after a car accident. The news was given this Monday (24) by his agent Sarabeth Schedeen.
“The world is definitely a much darker place today without Leslie Jordan’s love and light. He was not only a mega talent and a joy to work with, but also an emotional sanctuary for the nation in one of its most difficult times. What he lacked in height he made up for in generosity and grandeur as a son, brother, artist, comedian, partner and human being. Knowing that he left the world at the height of his professional and personal life is the only consolation one can have today,” Schedeen told CNN .
According to sources in the Los Angeles Times, Jordan was involved in a car accident Monday morning in Hollywood. An LAPD spokesperson confirmed to the CNN that there was a fatal accident, but did not release further details.
In his 2009 book My Trip Down the Pink Carpet, Jordan documented his move from Tennessee to Hollywood in 1982.
He “boarded a Greyhound bus bound for Los Angeles with $1,200 sewn into his underwear and never looked back,” the description of an editor of the book read.
The actor found television work on shows like “The Fall Guy”, “Designing Women” and “The People Next Door”.
Jordan created the role of Earl “Brother Boy” Ingram in the award-winning play “Sordid Lives,” which he reprized in the 2000 independent film adaptation.
He was a fan favorite for his recurring role as Karen’s friend Beverley Leslie on “Will & Grace.” He also appeared in “American Horror Story” and “The Cool Kids”.
Her star shone even brighter during the height of the pandemic when her social media presence took off on Instagram, gaining her millions of followers.
The platform also became a place where Jordan shared his struggles, memories and family stories (many about his beloved mother) through the prism of humor.
Jordan spoke with Anderson Cooper of CNN about his past of substance abuse and being sober for over 20 years.
“People say, ‘Well, how do you get sober, what’s the best way,'” Jordan said. “Yeah, well, 120 days in prison in Los Angeles.
His last Instagram post was him singing an anthem with artist Danny Myrick on Sunday (23).
