The movie “Silvio” hits theaters this Thursday (12). Mixing facts and fiction, the title seeks to humanize Silvio Santos and shows another side of the TV presenter, according to those involved in the production.
The scene chosen to explore this side of the businessman was his kidnapping in 2001. From this episode onwards, the beginnings of the protagonist’s career, from street vendor to the founding of SBT, are told.
In an interview with CNN director Marcelo Antunez stated that he sought to deconstruct the persona Silvio Santos and portray the man behind the legendary TV presenter: Senor Abravanel.
“We always say that Silvio [Santos] he is a unique figure… he was a unique figure as a communicator, as a businessman, in short, a series of skills. But he has one characteristic, that the general public knows, which is the character. The prosody, jokes, laughter”, he began.
“I think the greatest care we took, our greatest concern, was precisely to deconstruct the character a little, to find the human being behind Silvio Santos and discover who he is. Sir Abravanel,” he said.
Rodrigo Faro took on the challenge of playing Silvio after 15 years away from acting. A conversation he had with Silvio Santos himself was what motivated him to accept the role and portray the side of his colleague that few know.
“I had all the references from this conversation with him. And it was this Silvio that I wanted to bring to the film. The human Silvio. The Silvio in flesh and blood. The Silvio who has empathy. The Silvio who has the power of persuasion. (…) It is a great pride and satisfaction to be able, today, to talk about this project that began this way,” he said.
“The only pain is that he could have watched it. I really wanted to. Then I went up to him and said: ‘So, Silvão, did I get 1% close? So, tell me, did you like it?’. It was something I wanted to do one day”, he concluded.
The producer Fabio Golombek He also said that having Faro as the protagonist was the “best decision” for the film. However, Faro said that he felt fear and insecurity when accepting the role and revealed that, initially, he did not want to participate in the film.
“At our first meeting, I came to him [Marcelo Antunez, diretor] and I said, ‘Dude, I am insecure and scared. It is a huge responsibility . I don’t know if I want to do it. I have a lot of problems. I read the text and I think it’s going to be difficult to do Silvio’s voice. It’s not going to work.’ But then he came and turned to me: ‘This is what I need,'” he said.
