Letizia Ortiz as her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia

Se per Kate Middleton it has now become a custom to pay homage to the unforgettable mother-in-law with outfits, prints and details capable of evoking her style, no less it seems to be for Letizia Ortiz.

The Spanish monarch, just recently, on the occasion of the official meeting with the President of Chile Sebastian Pinera, has in fact sported a dress that, without too many doubts, seems to have come straight out of the wardrobe of the mother-in-law, the Queen Sofía. With applications and floral decorations, the bon ton dress is in fact the same worn by the sovereign in 1981, on the occasion of an official visit to Italy, precisely a Roma.

The lavender armholes and the floral sequin applications on the bodice do not betray, on the contrary, they confirm the affectionate homage of the daughter-in-law towards her mother-in-law. A gesture that, with fashion strokes, definitively archives the well-known old grudges, and that episode, which went viral in 2018, which highlighted the cracked relationship between the two.

The less faded memories will remember, in fact, Letizia intent on preventing, in front of photographers and the public, the usual photo of her grandmother – with an evidently angry expression – together with her granddaughters leaving the Church on Easter day. A hiccup, which at the time fueled gossip about the tensions between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law, but which now seems to be a thing of the past. At the Palacio Real, now, there is a serene air and the fashion choice of the wife of King Felipe seems to confirm this.

What is more, the dress, after a good forty years, does not seem to have lost in appeal. Indeed, the pleated skirt and Letizia’s addition of the silver belt that surrounds the waist and the pair of white pumps have made it even more contemporary. A beautiful and good choice. Yet another confirmation of how fashion, like the loves sung by Venditti, makes huge turns and then returns.
