Letizia Ortiz, the story of the ring she wears on all special occasions

«I spent my childhood on the streets of Rome, where you can find a work of art on every corner. I was fascinated by the extraordinary aesthetic strength of Renaissance painters like Caravaggio And Raffaello and by the art of baroque sculptors such as Bernini. What intrigued me most was not only their exceptional technique, but also the way they communicated profound messages through their works,” he tells us Michelangelo Brancato (Rome, 1969), founder of the Coreterno brand, born in 2015, e creator of Queen Letizia’s favorite ring Ortiz (which he always wears on his left hand).

«We launched a line of T-shirts that went viral and a few months later I decided to embark on a journey to create something unique, an object that perfectly combined art and design. It was then that I created the Visionary Candles, candles with Victorian references, punk-inspired graphics and personal mantras”, says the art expert, who in 2024 will also exhibit his works at the Venice Art Biennale. From Rome, Michelangelo moved to New York.»

«Our candles immediately attracted the attention of New York Postwhich earned us an article between a quote from Obama and one of the New York Giants. And as he said Frank Sinatra, “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere,” Brancato jokes. In launching Coreterno, his goal was to bring together all the elements he loves: classical art, ancient engravings, new media, punk rock references, positivism and impeccable craftsmanship. «My philosophy is that anyone can be a rock star, understood as a symbol of confidence and brilliance in any life scenario they choose», he adds.

«I designed it taking inspiration from the artisan wedding rings of the Middle Ages, trying to recreate its surface and irregular shape. My goal was to evoke the value and meaning that these rings had in people’s lives: a symbol of love, faith and passion since ancient times. To add further depth, I included some words taken from poems about eternal love, infusing the ring with rich emotional and historical meaning,” reveals the author of Letizia’s famous ring.

«For me and the whole team it was an incredible honor and a real success to see that the Queen of Spain was wearing one of our handmade rings. It’s a great style icon. Her ability to effortlessly combine elegance with contemporary fashion reflects a keen sense of style and a willingness to adopt unique and meaningful accessories. Being chosen by such an extraordinary woman capable of setting trends undoubtedly touched our hearts, filling us with boundless joy. Designing a ring for a queen is like building a guitar for Jimi Hendrix. For a jewelry designer, there is nothing better!».
