“Let’s go to hell” – The message of the Ukrainians before “hitting” the Russian flagship Moskva

A strong blow seems to have been received in the early hours of the morning the Russian “flagship” of the Black Sea, Moskva, after an explosion on its deck, where ammunition was stored. As the Russian Ministry of Defense admitted, the ship has suffered “serious damage”.

“Due to the fire, there was an explosion of ammunition in Moscow, which he was carrying. The ship has been severely damaged. The crew was evacuated, “the Defense Ministry said, according to Russian news agencies TASS, RIA Novosti and Interfax.

Information of the Ukrainian authorities earlier claimed that the Russian cruise ship hit by rockets against surface Neptune ships. This information cannot be independently verified.

According to British media Ukrainians shout “Let’s go to hell” before hitting Russian flagship as the governor of Odessa, Maksym Marchenko, wrote in a Telegram post: “It has been confirmed that the Moskva missile cruiser went exactly where it was sent by our border guards to Snake Island today! Go to c @@». The latter was a reference to what had been recorded at the beginning war in Ukraine when Ukrainian troops on Snake Island have detained Russians demanding their surrender.

BBC: The attack on Moskva is symbolic but also substantial

The warship is a “symbol of the Russian navy in the Black Sea,” Michael Petersen of the Russia Maritime Studies Institute told the BBC.

“Moskva has been a thorn in the side of the Ukrainians since the beginning of this conflict. “To see it suffer so much; I think it will be a real boost to the morale of the Ukrainians.”

It could also have military implications, possibly forcing the Russian navy to “operate further offshore than before, and this could affect its ability to provide direct fire support to troops on land.”

The Russian army has dominated the Black Sea since the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and used its presence there to launch and fuel the invasion.

The ship was originally built in Ukraine during the Soviet era and was put into service in the early 1980s, according to Russian media.

The Mosvka had previously been deployed by Moscow in the conflict in Syria, where it provided naval protection to Russian forces in the country. It carries more than a dozen Vulkan anti-ship missiles and a range of anti-submarine and anti-tank weapons, reports say.

In the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the flagship made headlines worldwide when it ordered a group of Ukrainian soldiers at an outpost on the Black Sea to surrender. When soldiers provocatively denied a radio message, it was initially thought that the border soldiers had been killed, but had in fact been taken prisoner. The soldiers were later released as part of an exchange of prisoners with Russia in late March, the Ukrainian parliament said.
