An outspoken confrontation, a journey to discover a world, the Lgbtq + one, which has often suffered from a flat and approximate story but that Netflix is finally able to deal with the sincerity and frankness it deserves. The new episode of Let’s talk about, the format promoted by the platform and available on YouTube, is dedicated precisely to this: to the celebration of Pride Month through the dialogue of four stars of the community: the actor and activist Pietro Turano, here in the role of conductor; the singer and author Michele Bravi; the activist and former Italian politician Vladimir Luxuriaand the content creator and videomaker Charlie Moon.
To be central in the round table set up by Netflix is above all the representation of the LGBTQ + community in films and TV series, because if there is one thing we often do is underestimate the importance that audiovisual products exert on the perception we have of ourselves, but also on the emotions and sensations that those characters and those stories have the power to evoke in those who look. It is no coincidence that the new installment of let’s talk about be titled its own It was a TV series that made me realize I was GAY, awakening in the guests of the round table the memories related to the worlds they counted as children and young people without realizing there the impact they would have on their lives.
The theme of representation continues to be central in Italy and in the world and, despite the considerable progress made, we must not let our guard down, hoping that the screenwriters will increasingly avoid slipping into clichés and stereotypes in order to tell the community in a true way, in the its lights and its shadows. The title of the episode is, among other things, also the subject of the new Netflix Marquee message in Piazza di Trevi Fountain in Rome: in fact, from 8 June, it will be read on the special permanent posting It was a TV show that made me realize I’m GAY, one of the many ways the platform will use to celebrate the LGBTQ + community during Pride month.
