Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reiterates the condemnation of the Spanish government for any unilateral actions that endanger stability in the region, including the ongoing illegal actions by Turkey in the closed area of Varosia.
In his reply letter to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, Mr. Sanchez expresses the hope for the resumption of the negotiation process to resolve the Cyprus problem as soon as possible. Furthermore, it reaffirms Spain’s support for the relevant Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, both with regard to the status of the Varosians and the intended solution of the Cyprus problem, which should be fully compatible with International Law.
As stated in a written statement by government spokesman Marios Pelekanos, Mr. Sánchez finally underlines the need to maintain security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region, emphasizing at the same time that the Spanish side is not going to accept the continuation of the stalemate observed here and decades in Cyprus.
