Lew Palter, actor in the iconic scene of the movie “Titanic”, dies at 94

Actor and teacher Lew Palter died of lung cancer at the age of 94 at his home in Los Angeles. Palter died on May 21, but the information was only confirmed by his daughter, Catherine Palter, in an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”, last Monday (25).

Remembered for performances in hit classics such as “Mission: Impossible” and Charlie’s Angels”, Palter is also recognized for his performance in the film. Titanic .

Who doesn’t remember the iconic passage from the film that shows an elderly couple lying down and hugging as the ship sinks?

In the scene, Palter’s character was inspired by Isidor Straus, co-owner of Macy’s department store and killed in the tragedy. On that occasion, almost 1,500 people lost their lives in a shipwreck that occurred in 1912.

In director James Cameron’s plot, Isidor’s wife, seeing that her husband could not board the lifeboats, gives up her seat and gives way to the women and children who desperately try to save themselves from the shipwreck after the transatlantic crash into an iceberg.

Recently, the news that the submarine Titan, from the company OceanGate, that imploded while trying to observe the wreckage of the Titanic ship, gained prominence around the world.

In the incident, Stockton Rush, chief executive and one of the owners of the corporation, was also on board the vehicle and died along with the other crew members.
